Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
