Line of Duty Announced for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-part series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
